A-Mei's Pot Side Paste (阿妹的店鼎邊糊), the Scrumptious and Unique Local Breakfast in Nangan, Matsu, Taiwan!

In the evening of Jul 17, 2020, my friend and I boarded the ferry, Taima Star (台馬之星), in ordered to cross the Strait of Taiwan from Keelung Harbor (基隆港), Keelung, Taiwan. After one-night sailing, we arrived at Nangan's Fuao Harbor (南竿福澳港), Matsu, Taiwan in the next morning.

We arrived at Fuao Harbor (福澳港) roughly at 06:00. The motorcycle rental was still closed, so we decided to head to A-Mei's Pot Side Paste (阿妹的店鼎邊糊) for breakfast by foot from the harbor.

We loaded our light luggage and walked sharply uphill and then downhill half an hour to Jieshou Lion Market (介壽獅子市場).

A-Mei's Pot Side Paste (阿妹的店鼎邊糊) is located on the 2nd floor of Jieshou Lion Market (介壽獅子市場). It opened at 6:00 every day.

The signature here was, of course, the pot side paste (鼎邊糊, dingbianhu). We separately ordered a bowl of the pot side paste (鼎邊糊, dingbianhu). Its price was 70 TWD (= 2.38 USD). I heard that the pork dumpling soup (燕餃湯) was also quite unique! Unluckily, the pork dumpling soup (燕餃湯) wasn't served due to the material shortage that day.

The pot side paste was made by pouring the indica rice milk on the side of the hot pot. After the rice milk became solid, the chef scrape off the solid rice milk slice by slice. And then the chef put the rice milk slices and other toppings into the soup.

A-Mei's Pot Side Paste (阿妹的店鼎邊糊) was so popular with people that our breakfast was served pretty slowly.

Every slice was irregular in its shape and size!

The pot side paste based on indica rice milk was a little thick with the slightly springy texture. It tasted fantastic with the soup!

The soup consisted of pork bones, fish bones and clams. It especially tasted savory! Due to the rice milk, the soup looked slightly muddy and sticky.

The seafood in the soup, beltfish and clams, lifted the level of freshness!

Besides the seafood, here were the other food materials.

The other food materials included the wood ear, wax gourd and minced scallions. They enriched the flavor of the soup!

For me, sprinkling some white pepper powder made the whole pot side paste even more attractive and mouth-watering!

Visiting A-Mei's Pot Side Paste (阿妹的店鼎邊糊) in the early morning was a very smart option! It was too popular to visit here late, maybe after 9:00. Everything here would be sold out!

Personally speaking, A-Mei's Pot Side Paste (阿妹的店鼎邊糊) serves Matsu's unique breakfast. Additionally, the soup tastes great and savory! It's the gourmet food you shouldn't miss out when visiting Matsu, Taiwan!
