Chiang's Coffin Bread (蔣家官財板), Serving the Crispy Outside but Fluffy Inside Deep-Fried Stuffed Toast in Ji-An, Hualien, Taiwan!

Sep. 29, 2020 was the 7th day of the journey when my friend and I travelled around Taiwan by public bike and railway. That evening we visited Ji-An, Hualien (花蓮吉安). We headed to the famous eatery,  Chiang's Coffin Bread (蔣家官財板), for dinner near the intersection of Jianguo Rd. Sec. 2 (建國路二段) and Beian St. (北安街).

We arrived here at about 20:00. It was almost closed, so the options we could choose were just a few!

The full menu was on its business card! Coffin bread (官財板) was the deep-fried egg toast with the various stuffing!

I just ordered a dish of satay beef coffin bread (沙嗲牛肉官財板) at 60 TWD (= 2.1 USD) and a dish of milk chicken coffin bread (奶香雞肉官財板) at 50 TWD (= 1.75 USD). My friend ordered a dish of satay beef coffin bread (沙嗲牛肉官財板) at 60 TWD (= 2.1 USD) and a dish of spicy peanut chicken coffin bread at 55 TWD (= 1.92 USD).

After we placed our orders, the chef started to fry our coffin bread. The freshly-made food was always worth our high expectation!

Chiang's Coffin Bread (蔣家官財板) had a branch at Dongdamen Night Market (東大門夜市), Hualien, but customers seemed unable to dine there. Customers could just comfortably enjoyed the coffin bread at his branch!

Besides the better environment, the beverages, milk tea and black tea, were unlimited for free! What a wonderful bargain!

After a while, our freshly-fried and hot coffin breads were all served!

At first, I'd like to try my milk chicken coffin bread (奶油雞肉官財板)

The deep-fried toast was a little crispy outside but quite fluffy inside with some egg aroma!

The stuffing, milk chicken, had the light milk aroma. The texture of chicken was juicy, not tough! With some shredded cabbages, the deep-fried toast tasted not oily but quite heavenly!

The satay beef coffin bread (沙嗲牛肉官財板) also included the crispy outside but fluffy inside deep-fried toast and the fresh shredded cabbages!

The stuffing here became the satay beef! The taste of satay beef was slightly heavier than milk chicken, but the aroma was even more obvious due to the satay sauce! Both of them were scrumptious, but I loved satay beef coffin bread more!

After finishing the tasty and unique coffin bread (官財板), my friend and I walked a slow stroll back to the guesthouse near Tzu-Chi Hospital, Hualien (花蓮慈濟醫院). We were going to face the end of the journey around Taiwan!
