Hsu's Vietnamese Mutton Hot Pot (許越式羊肉爐), Serving the Mellow and Tender Mutton Hot Pot in Zhunan, Miaoli, Taiwan!
On Sep. 23, 2020, the 1st day of the journey when we travelled around Taiwan by public bicycle and railway, we rode the public bikes, Youbikes, to Fugang Station (富岡車站), Taoyuan from Banqiao, New Taipei. Next, we got on the train to North Hsinchu Station (北新竹車站), Hsinchu, and then we rode the public bikes, Youbikes, to Zhunan, Miaoli, our destination that day.
Taiwanese usually preferred to enjoy the mutton hot pot in winters, but it was still pretty hot in Miaoli this September. Therefore, here were not many customers at Hsu's Vietnamese Mutton Hot Pot (許越式羊肉爐).
Here was no indoor seat occupied.
Most of customers here chose the outdoor seats because of nice ventilation. We also chose the outdoor table seats next to the electric fan.
We 2 guys only ordered the 300-gram mutton hot pot (羊肉爐) at 500 TWD (17.28 USD) and a dish of sesame oil vermicelli (麻油麵線) at 50 TWD (= 1.73 USD).
Here were also some side dishes served at 40 TWD (= 1.38 USD) per dish. But we 2 guys didn't order any extra dishes.
We just patiently waited after placing our orders. By the way, the mutton hot pot was pre-cooked before it was put onto the stove at the center of the table.
At first, the sesame oil vermicelli was served. It smelled quite good with the sesame oil aroma. Its topping was the crispy fried shallots.
Next, the boiling mutton hot pot was served! The ingredients were pretty various! The hot pot included the mutton, corn, wood ear, tofu skin and onions.
The mutton here was served with skin and few bones! Its texture stroke a perfect balance between leanness and fatness!
After I dipped the mutton with skin with the sauce, the mutton had the aroma from not only the sauce but also even the mutton!
The deep fried tofu skin absorbed some mutton soup, so it tasted so mouth-watering!
The corn in the mutton hot pot was also quite sweet!
There was also the wood ear in the mutton hot pot. Its texture was a little al dente!
The mutton soup tasted fresh and mellow with the aroma of medicine herbs. Additionally, the mellowness seemed from the vegetables. We couldn't help enjoy the soup one bite after another!
But the cabbages were at the bottom of hot pot. Thus the texture of long-cooked cabbage was quite soft when I tried the cabbages. Frankly speaking, I preferred the short-cooked cabbage.
After we finished the satisfying and full mutton hot pot at Hsu's Vietnamese Mutton Hot Pot (許越式羊肉爐), we just took a stroll in Downtown Zhunan, Miaoli.
At last, we went back to the hotel and slept for the 2nd day of bicycle-and-railway journey from Zhunan, Miaoli to Downtown Taichung.
