Hagi Momiji Beef Cutlet (萩椛牛かつ), Serving the Tender, Juicy and Fantastic Deep-Fried Beef Cutlets in Kaohsiung, Taiwan!
Sep. 26, 2020 was the 4th day of the journey when my friend and I went around Taiwan by public bike and railway. That morning we got on the train to Xinying Station (新營車站), Tainan from Chiayi Station (嘉義車站), Chiayi, and then we rode Tainan's public bikes, T-Bike, to Bao-An Station (保安車站) in the southern Tainan. Next, we headed to Luzhu Station (路竹車站), Kaohsiung by train and then rode Kaohsiung's public bikes, Youbike, to Downtown Kaohsiung, our destination that day.
Unfortunately, the seats at Hagi Momiji Beef Cutlet (萩椛牛かつ) were still all occupied at 20:00. Thus, we waited here half an hour for our seats.
Our seats were the table seats for 4 customers.
I was excited to see the its menu after we had our seats.
Of course, the beef cutlet was the signature at Hagi Momiji Beef Cutlet (萩椛牛かつ)!
Because we felt so hungry after the long cycling, we both ordered a set meal of 300-gram marbled beef cutlets (酥炸霜降牛定食).
The price of a set meal of 300-gram beef cutlets was 658 TWD (= 22.74 USD). Additionally, the 10% service charge was necessary here!
After placing our orders, I just took a look at the environment.
The environments here were wide and comfortable. The interior design was based on wood. It looked quite warm and Japanese.
There were lots of Japanese sake, even the famous Dassai (獺祭) Sake, on the wall.
There were full of beautiful marbled beef in freezers next to the kitchen.
After a while, our set meals of marbled beef cutlets were served. Besides the main course, marbled beef cutlet, the set meal included the rice, salad, miso soup and beverage.
The rice, shredded cabbage, miso soup and beverage could be refilled for free!
The salad consisted of various and abundant vegetables! Its toppings was a soft-boiled egg! With the citrus soy sauce, the salad tasted fresh and lessen the greasiness!
The rice here was springy but slightly sticky. The topping, furikake (ふりかけ), made the rice even more delicious! The combination of rice and beef cutlets was impeccable! I couldn't help but ask for one more bowl of rice!
The main dish, 300-gram (10 oz) beef cutlets, looked so king-sized! It was satisfying to us after the heavy exercise!
The beef cutlets with the thin batter were rare when they were served. Customers could directly enjoy them. The rare beef cutlets tasted tender and heavenly!
Customers could also slightly heat the beef cutlets on the hot plate. That made the aroma of beef tallow diffuse in the air. The heated beef cutlets were also fantastic!
My favorite way to enjoy the beef cutlets was to have the slightly heated beef cutlets with wasabi, soy sauce and rice. What a heavenly beef cutlet!
The dessert was cranberry jelly topped with dried cranberries. The sour and sweet jelly was not bad!
The credit cards were acceptable at Hagi Momiji Beef Cutlet (萩椛牛かつ). It was very convenient for customers.
After enjoying the king-sized and scrumptious beef cutlets (牛かつ), we walked a stroll along the Love River (愛河) to the hotel. The next day, we rode the public bikes, Youbikes, to Downtown Pingtung from Downtown Kaohsiung.
