Bao's Charcoal-Roasted Apricot Kernel Tea (包氏炭燒杏仁茶), Serving the Local and Unique Breakfast at Nanmen Roundabout, Chiayi, Taiwan!
Sep. 26, 2020 was the 4th day of the journey when my friend and I travelled around Taiwan by public bike and railway. That morning we rode the hotel's bicycles to Nanmen Roundabout (南門圓環) from the hotel near Chiayi Station (嘉義車站). We'd like to try Chiayi's unique breakfast at Bao's Charcoal-Roasted Apricot Kernel Tea (包氏炭燒杏仁茶)!
Bao's Charcoal-Roasted Apricot Kernel Tea (包氏炭燒杏仁茶) was a small booth without a roof at Nanmen Roundabout (南門圓環). The dine-in customers were casually on the plastic chairs.
I heard that Bao's Charcoal-Roasted Apricot Kernel Tea (包氏炭燒杏仁茶) was established since 1935. It had operated for roughly 85 years.
I watched the owner easily crack the eggs and then professionally pour the hot apricot kernel tea into the cup. I could fully sensed the insistence and confidence of a time-honored booth!
I simply ordered a cup of apricot kernel tea with an egg at 25 TWD (= 0.87 USD) and a loaf of youtiao at 15 TWD (= 0.52 USD).
The apricot kernel tea had the rich aroma of apricot. With the egg yolk, besides the additional egg aroma, the texture became even more thick and smooth!
The youtiao was pretty crispy but a little oily. With some apricot kernel tea, it became a slightly softer but even more delicious with the aroma of apricot and eggs!
After finishing Chiayi's local, unique and tasty breakfast, we rode the bicycles back to the hotel near Chiayi Station (嘉義車站) and then prepared to check out and get on the train to Xinying Station (新營車站), Tainan.
The plan that day was to ride the public bikes 85 km directly to Downtown Kaohsiung from Xinying Station, Taiwan! Tainan's public bike system was T-Bike system, and Kaohsiung's public bike system was Youbike system!
