Surugaya (駿河屋), the Time-Honored Restaurant Serving Its Extremely Fragrant and Delicious Grilled Eel Rice in Narita, Chiba, Japan!

In the early morning of Aug. 2, 2019, my friends and I left for Narita Airport, Chiba, Japan from Taoyuan Airport, Taiwan by plane. After we legally entered Japan, it was already at noon. We just headed to JR Narita Station by JR for lunch nearby!

Of course, when we were in Narita, Chiba, Japan, we'd like to try its famous speciality, grilled eel rice (うな重)!

This time we decided to visit the popular and time-honored restaurant, Surugaya (駿河屋).

We saw the chef grilling the eels at its entrance! The grilled eels smelled too good to resist! We just entered the restaurant!

The space inside the restaurant was wide enough. The seats here were not crowded at all!

Its Air Condition was also great!

After we had our seats, we were going to place our orders.

Besides the Japanese menu, it also served English and Chinese menus with photos.

The main course for me, of course, the grilled eel rice (うな重) at 3,726 JPY (= 35.05 USD)! We all ordered this main course. Although I heard the grilled chicken rice was also tasty, I thought the grilled rice would be a better choice for my 1st time!

We also ordered 2 dishes of appetites, the eel jelly (鰻煮こごり) at 540 JPY (= 5.08 USD) and Japanese omelette (だし卷玉子) at 594 JPY (= 5.58 USD). Although the carp sashimi looked also good, we were afraid that we couldn't finished all of them. We decided to give it up.

After placing our order, we just waited and hoped!

Its pickles tasted slightly salty without anything. Having it with the main course would be a better idea.

The 1st dish was the eel jelly (鰻煮こごり). The jellied part looked a little transparent. Here were also some large eel chucks and sliced scallions in the jelly.

It was really unique! It tasted cool and appetizing in summers!

Especially its jellied part, the grilled eel aroma gradually filled in mouth when it melted in my mouth. It was too fantastic to forget!

The next side dish was Japanese omelette (だし卷玉子).

The fresh-made Japanese omelette was pretty hot! Its texture was smooth and fluffy with the aroma of seafood broth!

Enjoying the omelette with mashed radishes was so heavenly!

At last, it was the turn of the main course this day! The grilled eel rice (うな重) smelled so mouth-watering when I opened up its lid.

Here were two pieces of grilled eels topped on the rice. Each of them looked so thick!

Its skin was grilled with the slightly crispy texture, and the fragrant sauce was evenly distributed on its skin. The inside of eel was extremely tender!

Additionally, the al dente, grainy but slightly sticky rice was dipped with fantastic eel sauce!

Although the price here was a little high, but it was absolutely worth what our paid!

After that, I enjoyed the bowl of eel liver soup. It would exactly be the best pleasure in life!

Besides its original flavor, the staff here also recommended us to sprinkle some powder of Japanese pepper onto the grilled eel.

The combination of the Japanese pepper and grilled eel tasted numbing. It was a special and not bad experience, but for me, I loved its original flavor even more!

After enjoying the scrumptious grilled eel rice, we took some rest. And then we paid our bill. Credit cards were acceptable at Surugaya (駿河屋)! It was a customer-friendly restaurant!

Because we were all so full and satisfied, we planned to visit Naritasan Shinshoji Temple nearby next!
