Toyotsune (とよ常), the Famous Time-Honored Restaurant for Its Delectable Tempura Donburi in Beppu, Oita, Japan for Around a Century!
On Sep. 17, 2018, after my friends and I visited Aso Volcano, Kumamoto and Yufuin, Oita, Japan in the afternoon, we headed to Toyotsune (とよ常) for dinner in Beppu, Oita.
Toyotsune (とよ常) was roughly an one-hundred-year-old restaurant and popular with locals in Beppu. Although there were lots of customers queueing, we didn't waste too much time queueing because its seats were more than common time-honored restaurants.
After approximately 15 minutes, we all had seats!
Toyotsune's signature was of course its special tempura donburi! I ordered one bowl of special tempura donburi with 3 prawn tempura at 1,210 JPY (= 10.81 USD)!
In fact, the chicken tempura (とり天) at 650 JPY (= 5.81 USD) was also the signature here, but we didn't ordered it! We ordered the fluffy tamagoyaki (ふわふわ出巻き玉子) at 780 JPY (= 6.97 USD).
It took a while after we ordered. Our miso soup and pickles were the first things delivered on our table. The miso soup tasted so umami and wonderful!
The next one appearing on our table was the main course, the special tempura donburi with 3 prawn tempura!
The fresh prawns and vegetables was battered lightly and then deep fried until golden and crispy! We enjoyed the golden and crispy tempura with Toyotsune's homemade sauce and hot high-quality Japanese rice so much! The tempura donburi was exactly the time-honor gourmet for almost a century!
The texture of fluffy tamagoyaki (ふわふわ出巻き玉子) was impeccably as same as its name in Japanese name, ふわふわ(Fuwafuwa, fluffy in Japanese) and also with the light aroma of broth.
After enjoy the gourmet of the one-hundred-year-old restaurant, we didn't spend too much time in Beppu, Oita due to our itinerary. We had to drive via the toll expressway to Dormy Inn Premium in Shimonoseki, Yamaguchi, the hotel we were going to stay at in a hurry.
