Zhiben Casserole Beef/Mutton Noodle Soup (知本砂鍋手工牛羊肉麵), Serving the Boiling-Hot & Delicious Casserole Mutton Noodle Soup in Taitung, Taiwan
Sep. 28, 2020 was the 6th day of the journey when we traveled around Taiwan by public bike and railway. That morning we got on the train to Fangliao Station (枋寮車站), Pingtung from Liukuaicuo Station (六塊厝車站), Pingtung. And then we transferred to the nostalgic old blue train to Zhiben Station (知本車站), Taitung.
Zhiben Casserole Beef/Mutton Noodle Soup (知本砂鍋手工牛羊肉麵) was going closed then. Luckily, here were the last 2 casseroles of noodle soup left!
Thus, I ordered a casserole of mutton noodle soup with mutton tendon & wide noodles (羊肉麵加羊筋搭配寬麵) at 150 TWD (= 5.26 USD), and my friend order a casserole of beef noodle soup with mutton tendon & wide noodles (牛肉麵加羊筋搭配寬麵) at 150 TWD (= 5.26 USD). Moreover, we ordered a dish of dumplings (水餃) recommended by the owner at 60 TWD (= 2.1 USD) to share with each other.
After a while, the boiling-hot casserole mutton noodle soup was served with steam!
The noodles was the handmade wide noodles. Their texture was thick and springy!
The mutton chunk was quite large, but its texture was still fresh and tender!
The mutton tendon was tender but a little springy. It showed some difference from the mutton chunk.
The soup based on mutton bones tasted smooth and mild with some mutton aroma! Additionally, the advance of the casserole was to keep the soup hot very well!
For customers who loved spicy food, the mutton-fat chili (羊油辣椒) on the table was the must-try seasoning!
The mutton-fat chili made the whole soup even more delicious! The soup became more of mutton aroma, more appetizing and spicier! I strongly recommended it!
The wrapper of dumplings was quite springy, and the stuffing was based on pork and chives. The texture was firm but a little springy. The dumplings here tasted fresh and juicy!
With some soy sauce, the dumplings became even tastier!
After finishing the tasty casserole mutton noodle soup, we walked back to Zhiben Station (知本車站), Taitung and then waited for the train to Taitung Station (台東車站), Taitung. We resumed our railway journey in the eastern Taiwan!
