Sep. 25, 2020 was the 3rd day of the journey when my friend and I travelled around Taiwan by public bike and railway. We started riding the public bicycles from Downtown Taichung that morning. At noon, we arrived in Downtown Changhua for lunch. We visited the time-honored ba-wan booth, Ba-Wan Nan (肉圓南).
Ba-Wan Nan (肉圓南) was located in the lane of Xiaoyang Rd. (曉陽路), Downtown Changhua. It was hard to find and easy to miss out!
Here were 2 kinds of ba-wan stuffings, chunked pork (肉角) and shredded pork(肉絲).
I just ordered a shredded pork ba-wan (肉絲肉圓) at 35 TWD (= 1.22 USD) and a bowl of mixed soup (綜合湯) at 25 TWD (= 0.87 USD)
The mixed soup based on the pork bones. With the seasonings, white pepper and parsley, the soup tasted smooth and mild. The food materials in the soup were very satisfying. Besides the fish balls (丸子), the bath chaps (骨仔肉) were pretty many in the soup.
The wrapper of deep fried ba-wan (肉圓) was a little springy. With the garlic, soy sauce and rice sauce, it stroke a perfect balance between salty and sweet taste!
The unique stuffing, shredded meat, was made of pork! It tasted smooth, juicy and flavorful!
Besides the shredded pork, the stuffing also included some chunked pork and bamboo shoots! They made the texture of ba-wan even more various!
Ba-Wan Nan (肉圓南), the time-honored food booth hidden in the lane, was absolutely worth visiting!
After finishing the springy and tasty ba-wan, my friend and I visited the railway roundhouse in Downtown Changhua. Next, we resumed our journey around Taiwan by public bike and railway, so we rode the public bikes, Youbikes, directly to Yuanlin Station (員林車站), Changhua!
