On Sep. 1, 2016, my university classmates and I went to the famous restaurant, Atsuta Houraiken (あつた蓬莱軒), for its superb grilled eel on rice (hitsumabushi, or unagi doburi(unadon)) after visiting Atsuta Shrine in Nagoya, Aichi, Japan.

We arrived at 11:30. Luckily we entered the restaurant soon, but those customers behind us spent so much time queueing. All of us had only one target there! Just the hitsumabushi (grilled eel on rice)! Although grilled eel was not cheap at all (JPY 3,600 ea.), we were willing to pay the price for the extreme gourmet!

Atsuta Houraiken (あつた蓬莱軒) provides all customers with the tutorial about the good method to enjoy the hitsumabushi (grilled eel on rice) on its official website.
At first, I tried the grilled eel on rice without anything. The grilled eel was so luscious!

The condiments (green onion, wasabi and seaweed) |
The ochazuke with grilled eel |
I turned them into the best ochazuke I had ever eaten! That was exactly a kind of magic! The tea made the grilled eel less oily and reheated the cooler rice and eel! Of three methods to enjoy the hitsumabushi (grilled eel on rice), I loved the ochazuke the most!
Although the price, JPY 3,600, is higher than other specialities in Nagoya, Aichi, Japan, I still think it's absolutely worth my money! Please don't miss the marvelous hitsumabushi (grilled eel on rice) when visiting Nagoya, Aichi, Japan!
