Jiang Ji Jiu Ji (江技舊記) Wonton, the Time-Honored Restaurat Serving the Springy and Tasty Wonton in Miaoli, Taiwan

Sep. 24, 2020 was the 2nd day of the journey when my friend and I travelled around Taiwan by public bike and railway. That morning we rode the public bikes, Youbikes, from Zhunan Station (竹南車站), Miaoli, Taiwan. After the long uphill cycling, we arrived at Jiang Ji Jiu Ji (江技舊記) Wonton on Xinmiao St., Downtown Miaoli for lunch.

Jiang Ji Jiu Ji (江技舊記) Wonton was established since 1949. It had operated for over 70 years. It was a very popular historic restaurant in Downtown Miaoli!

The customers came here one after another. Here were so many seats, so we could still have our seats soon!

I ordered a bowl of dry wonton (乾餛飩) at 40 TWD (= 1.39 USD) and a bowl of fishball soup (魚丸湯) at 30 TWD (= 1.04 USD). My friend ordered a bowl of dry wonton and fishball (乾餛飩魚丸) at 40 TWD (= 1.39 USD) and a bowl of braised pork rice at 35 TWD (1.22 USD).

After that, because the side dishes looked quite mouth-watering, we decided to order a dish of braised pork ribs at 35 TWD (= 1.22 USD).

My friend's dry wonton & fishball and braised pork rice were firstly served!

And then our dishes were all served soon!

The pork ribs here were pre-braised. The cook would reheat the pork ribs in the hot marinade after customers ordered them.

The pork ribs were thin-cut and well braised! Their texture was very tender!

The dry wonton was topped with some fried shallots and minced scallions. The special sauce was at the bottom of the bowl!

The wonton tasted especially great with the sauce, fried shallots and scallions!

The stuffing of wonton was firm, well-filled and springy! That was very impressive to me!

The numbing & chili sauce was very nice for the spicy-food eater!

For me, the numbing & chili sauce made the dry wonton even more fantastic!

The broth of fishball soup was based on the pork bones. With some fried shallot, celery and white pepper powder, the soup became very mild and delicious!

The texture of the fishballs was very springy. They seemed to contain not only surimi but also some green vegetables.

Besides the soup, the fishball tasted also fantastic with the wonton sauce and numbing & chili sauce!

After finishing the springy and tasty wonton at Jiang Ji Jiu Ji (江技舊記) Wonton, we slowly walked back to Miaoli Station (苗栗車站), Miaoli. Next, we got on the train to Tai-An Station (泰安車站), Taichung and then rode Taichung's public bikes, Youbikes, to our destination that day, Downtown Taichung!
